Arriving in Kotka – Driving directions:
Easiest route to the home port of the Lightning European Championships 2024 is as shown on the map below. When arriving on European Route E18, take highway exit 74 to the direction of Kotka. On road 15 take exit “Mussalo – Hirssaari”, then turn left to the direction of “Keskusta – Katariina”. Turn right on Haukkavuorenkatu, later Kuusisenkatu, when Kuusisenkatu ends turn left to Puistotie, when Puistotie ends turn right to Koulukatu. Turn left in direction of ”Kuusinen – Sapokka – Saaristoliikenne” to Tallinnankatu. Turn right to Sapokankatu and the destination is on your right-hand side.

When using public transportation:
By bus, you will arrive at the bus-station in the centre. Walking distance to the home port site is about 650 m.
By train, you will arrive at the north part of the centre. Walking distance to the home port site is about 1,3 km.
Navigate the Site
Home port site for boats and daily races is in the Sapokka -area at Sapokankatu 5 parking and marina. The site offers services such as bar-café Tulikukko, Café Merisydän and Aquarium Maretarium. Public toilets are in the Tulikukko -building. The “Klippan” boat to Varissaari Island and Restaurant Vaakku departs from the pier next to Tulikukko.
Next to the Maretarium is a local sea-food restaurant Vanha Fiskari. A popular ice-cream kiosk is also nearby. Nearest supermarket Pooki, is about 650 m from the site (Koulukatu 6B).
The Maritime Museum Vellamo is located in the north part of the centre (Tornatorintie 99) about 1,6 km from the Site.
Sapokka Water Garden is next to the Site, about 200 m, with its diverse plants and waterfall.
City Centre with Pasaati shopping centre is about 700 m from the site (Ruotsinsalmenkatu 14)
Kotkan Pursiseura – Kotka Yacht Club, where the events take place is located in Meriniemi about 400 m from the Sapokka site. In Meriniemi you will find Marina Café Laituri, sauna, public toilets and Restaurant Meriniemi. The marina houses also the guest marina. Kotka Yacht Club facilities are located in the buildings.
